RESEARCH IS A BLIND DATE WITH KNOWLEDGE

We have here someone who found his passion in Research. He found peace in Research; he found success. He is Tariqul Islam Tonmoy. The DYDF-India team got an opportunity to talk with him.

He completed his schooling from Gazaria Pilot High School, Gazaria, Munshiganj and college from Cambrian College, Dhaka. Reality hit him hard for the first time when he tried so hard but still couldn't make through the public university entrance examinations in Bangladesh. Then he forced himself to move to Punjab, India and took admission in Lovely Professional University, Punjab. He started off as an IT student. He struggled a lot in college and shifted streams after the 1st semester. His family was not happy with the decision.

As it is never too late to start again, he started his stream as Tourism and Hospitality Management in the same college; and from there he never looked back. He started doing great results. “If any student studies regularly, completes his task and attends classes regularly he will be able to make a good result.” He mentioned. Two semesters passed and he got a wonderful internship which was actually offered by his university. It was in Rajasthan and an excellent opportunity for him. During the time of the internship, he got some time for his own. There he discovered the approach of blog posts, where exploring the field he got to know if anyone has to study abroad for Masters, Research Paper is a very important factor.

He went to do some homework on the subject and found out one of his faculty served as a reviewer of an international journel. He took him as his inspiration. “I started reading research papers in my 4th semester. I proceeded to learn the process, the analysis and the method of publishing a certain paper. I decided to get involved as an academician after my post-graduation. From there I found my way.” From there he found his way; he looked as happy as it sounds.

He published his first paper the next semester. “I managed to publish 3 more research papers and went on to attend one National Conference at Gwalior where I presented one of my research articles. After that, I published another paper on “Sustainable Tourism” in a Turkish journal named “Journal of Tourism Intelligence & Smartness”. By that time he completed his undergraduate degree with CGPA 9.07 out of 10 along with some research papers.

Tonmoy started his other journey after the completion of his graduation. He mentioned, “As a student of Tourism background, it was too tough for me to get a job in my relevant sector as in Bangladesh we don't have that many opportunities in this field". He also added, as he had the intention to do his post-graduation abroad so he sat for the IELTS exam and achieved a satisfactory score. Following that he got an offer letter from a reputed institution for pursuing his masters. As well as he was a SII scholarship holder but he didn’t take the admission. The whole admission process is a little bit lengthier and he got plenty of free time so he thought to utilize his free time. For that he started applying for jobs and got an offer in his third interview from Mangrove Institute of Technology, Khulna as an Instructor in Tourism and Hospitality. From there he got the first glimpse of the life of an academician. But, a few months later unfortunately lockdown started due to covid-19.

For this pandemic as like others he was also stuck at home and thought to work on research paper. In June 2020, he again started writing another research paper and participated in many webinars. He wrote a research paper on Halal Tourism. On going with the interview, he mentioned “While working on that paper, I got a proposal to write a book chapter and I excitedly accepted that. Till now I wrote three chapters of the book. One of those was published by Amazon Publisher’s and two others are accepted and those will be published by two renowned national publications of India named "Bharti Publications" and "Sunrise Publications".

RESEARCH IS A BLIND DATE WITH KNOWLEDGE

Meanwhile, he participated in three international conferences at CT University, Punjab, Invertis University, UP and Jain University Bangalore where he presented his three different research articles and one of those was regarding "Travel Behavior After Pandemic: The Case of Punjab" and for that he was interviewed by one of the leading newspaper in India "The Times of India" and with his permission they featured that research article on their newspaper. The most recent article that got published named “Applications of social media in the tourism industry.”

As he is going to start his masters very soon so on behalf of DYDF-INDIA team, we wish him best of luck for his new journey.
