Journey of a proactive young mind : towards versatile growth
We
have always heard and read so many legends of those who are very familiar to us
for their successes. IN this era of job crisis Mahir Ashef says job will find
you given that you keep expertising in the field you are passionate in. He
completed his undergraduate from Rajshahi University of Science and Technology
in the CSE department.
He is
a motivated techno-functional individual who can operate on both business and
technical levels with tremendous organizational, communication, and management
skills. He is a creative emotional engineer having good mentoring skill. A
conceptualist who wants his ideas to be materialized through gaining needed
skills and networking on the way to graduation.
The
art to talk constructively with logical information for a certain duration
pulled him towards debate. He was the president of RUET Debating CLUB. RUET DC
Nation Debate Championship was organized in 2019-20 with 24 teams from 20
Universities. Regular workshops and weekly sessions are organized too. In
National Round season 2 session of English Olympiad he worked as an
adjudicator. His passion for public speaking helped him in leading project teams
in the upcoming years.
After
getting admitted to engineering college his
young mind was eager to learn and explore every creative fields. Started
learning new things like robotics, design development, project
management. Continuously expertising in his interested fields he started
training others. Since 2018, while working as a mentor in Bangladesh Robotics Olympiad, he conducted
workshops in different divisions of the country.Defining UX design he said, ”UX
design is product design ,what will be the user experience, how the product will
work, how it will solve problems, i.e realizing and designing”. He worked as a trainer in 2D design and UI design in
“Mobile Game Development Workshop” at
RUET organized by Dept. of CSE, RUET.
His
technical expertise particularly in the arena of UX design has brought him
several accolades in hackathons. In first hackathon they created connection
between IT and agriculture. Honey culture is a big industry in Bangladesh which
is going through some problems every year. One of them is colony collapse
disorder ;for which the queen bee leaves
the colony dwindle as the member dies one-by-one. This is caused because of
pollution ,inadequate temperature and other environmental issues. They worked
for some automation control in the
beehive which would control temperature, weight and other parameters; not
requiring further involvement by workers. So the cycles of bees is controlled
naturally. This IoT solution for apiculture, brought them Championship in
Arduino Day hackathon – Arduino Day ,2018 .Then in 2019, 1st Runner Up in
Cisco IoT Hackathon. This team devised for ensuring safety of passengers in
public transports as well as data collection for improvement of transportation
sector. Biggest hackathon organized by ICT Division is National Hackathon on
Frontier Technology. There were 10 problems which Bangladesh government is
facing for which 50 teams were called. Their problem was with LGED; how to
monitor corruption going on in road and bridge constructions in rural
areas. They submitted a block chain based concept where all the people working
on a specific project like engineers ,PD, constructors and also the local people
of that area can track performance, providing
real time monitoring, so that there remains no scope for manipulation. For
citizen based monitoring local people can capture photos of that area & can
update the conscious authority about the progress in work. With this outstanding
concept Mahir’s team won the hackathon and till now they are working for the
development of the project. He was the team leader, ideator and ux designer.
Asking
about his team he said, he is in a team of 18 members who are from different
streams of engineering .He thinks multidisciplinary students comes up more new
ideas and the teams be more strong .Till now they won in 5 hackathons. Along
with solving issues they get to meet and build network with teams from all
round the country.
For
his urge of learning he gained a strong foundation of various IT concepts. He
said, ”When we work on a hardware project ,then to establish the project it
needs to be worked from various sites like networking
,designing, marketing, production, for having prior knowledge it was easy for me
to work & trace how the other members are working”. From this he and his
team got the ability to take a problem and solve it. According to him, design
thinking is to solve a problem thinking
from unique perspective. As he planned to work on innovation, design thinking in
future, so he is still studying on it and gained international certification as
like from IDO.
In BASIS Softexpo,2020,their
project was Shout ,which is a public service platform to provide citizens easy
access to govt. services and provide govt. with development data.2nd Runner Up
IEEE Innovator Hunt 2018 ;2nd RUSC Science Festival in 2017.He was champion in
IT Business Idea Contest. He also won the Bangabandhu Innovation Grant
2019,which was a startup competition. He is currently included with two
government funded startups. And recently he and his team going to open their
Startup which will work to various digital products.
In
2018 he stepped towards professional work as a chief strategy officer in
Obosor. Worked during founding and brand image development of the company. Then
he expanded Operations in 2 Major Districts (e.g. Rangpur & Cumilla). Designed
user interface of 3 client apps, of which 2 of them are in play store and
one is being deployed in Rajshahi
University.From end of 2020 he is working as an Executive Manager in TARS
BINARY. From last year he is also working
as Project Manager, Game Karkhana,
Mobile Apps and Game Development Lab, RUET.
In
today’s time being a successful engineer and reaching at the top in the
selected field is not a child’s
pay. Along with pursuing his bachelor
degree, Mahir Ashef is working to harness his hands-on skills. He is being
creative, solution oriented and have detailed knowledge of the engineering
specialisation. His determination and hardworking made it possible to be a
shadow professional during 4 years undergraduate B.Sc degree. In order to stand
away from the crowd of thousand engineering degree holders , just like him we
need to be exposed to rigorous industry
interaction which will enrich us with
real life experience and improved skills.
